Anyways, I have been trying to figure out what it is that keeps me drawn to this province. The following is a short list of the top 10 things that keep me drawn to this province:
- 1 - Saskatchewan is the home of our family farm which means a lot to me and I enjoy being close to it and being able to keep my foot well grounded in the farming community. I have lately been slacking on lending a hand at the farm but these last few months have been very crazy.
- 2 - My wife's family also lives close by and they mean a lot to her and to me. Being close to them is always a good thing and soon will be even better when we can lean on them as babysitters....just kidding, we love them dearly and they are most definitely a reason why we stay in this province.
- 3 - Saskatchewan is a province that always has you guessing and on your toes in regards to the weather, the economy and the government.
- 4 - The space. I love the fact that Saskatchewan is sparsely populated and they is so much open space and fields.
- 5 - The northern lights - I am sure that we have the best light show next to Alaska.
- 6 - The natural attractions. There are so many things to see in Saskatchewan, you just have to know where to look. For example last summer for work we went on a landslide tour. During the tour we were lucky enough to see Castle Rock (Castle Butte) which is a HUGE rock in the big muddy valley South on Bengough. It was amazing. I am hopefully going to attach a photo album of this and the other attractions we took in during our tour.
- 7 - The PEOPLE - We are in fact not hillbillies, but grounded, down to earth people who actually give a crap about others. To some that may be the common trait of a hillbilly and if so...then I guess I am proud that I live in a province filled with them and again am proud to say that I too am a Hillbilly!
- 8 - The lakes, yes that is right the lakes. Saskatchewan is the province of a 1000 lakes. You just have to find them.
- 9 - The landscape. It may be flat to some, but to me, I grew up in the Moose Mountains. There is nothing but rolling hills around our farm. I am gonna try to also attach some pictures of the hills for you too.
- AND 10 - The cost of living. Thank the lord that we have nothing close to a Calgary or Edmonton. I enjoy the fact that I will one day own my house and in fact not be broke my entire life trying to pay for a 800 square foot home. I can in fact live in a 2000 square foot home and actually pay it off! Crazy I know, but again Saskatchewan offers us that opportunity.
To end off, I must say that I hope to be able to raise my family in Saskatchewan and show them all the beauty that this great province has to offer.

Wow, that is deep! I agree with every word though. I love Saskatchewan and I sure hope that we can stay and raise our family here. I am proud to say I am from Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm. Thank you for reminding me of what a great place we live it and how beautiful it really is.
Don't you guys talk enough at home? yeesh.
kidding aside, that is deep, and I may be crying a little inside. You are a poet trapped in an engineers body my friend.
To play devils advocate - Morley = hillbilly = Saskatchewan stereotype.
Also, housing prices are rising fairly fast here as well. this concerns me.
Lastly, welcome to blogger nation. Only 1.5 years behind the crowd. Things move a little slower in Arcola I guess.
Lastly again, why did you steal my blog design? Get yer own damned template!!!
I am impressed tommy boy! A few things I'd like to point out though. 1. Saskatchewan is revolutionary. We are the most people driven province despit the lack of people. We fight for what we have and to make it better making us revolutionary. Think about where everything starts in the country, Regina will have a riot and shit changes, we start healthcare and Unions for workers rights, this is not to say I agree with them now though. Also with people driven, the roughriders would not survive in any other province and have the best fan support in the league where ever they go. Telemiracle, and the fact we give like ten times more for charities than any other province. You gotta respect that.
2. We are gaining in popularity. This makes others jealous. Yea Alberta has money but it will fade and this money atracts riff raft, useless people that just wast the province away and then when the money is gone so are they, or they soak of the system. Alberta is jealous of our sustainability with population. The rest of the land watches corner gas, which is better than any other Canadian location based program hands down. Even toronto wants a piece of the pie ie. Little Mosque. People are jealous that we have a distict culture here separate from capitalist americana, the only other place that matches us is the Maritimes. We have so much more going for us and people are jealous as they see the shift in media, ie. music central this year, the best grey cups and the most profiting canadian concert ever. They fear us.
My fear is people coming here and our economy going to greed and our resources being overrun in population, we are the oasis of Canada and I like it that way. Tourism should be our focus, so people come to escape, spend their money but leave us in the end.
That is all for now, good worhtwhile blog.
Hi Son,
I hope this doesn't embarrass you, but I am going to say it anyway.}
I am very proud of you and your convictions. I love saskatchewan too, and am a true saskatchewan girl at heart. Now I can't wait for some hill billie grand kiddies so I can spoil them. LOL
As Always
Your Mom
OK - I'll just say what everybody "outside" of Saskatchewan is thinking B-O-R-I-N-G. We cal you guys hillbillies because you act like it alot. I live in Medicine hat where 75% of our population is Saskatchewan refugees. I'm thinking of putting up a sign at the border saying "GO BACK - WERE FULL!!!" Since moving here from Calgary, I've noticed that the people from Saskabush have no idea how to drive (specifically when it comes to driving; i.e no signal lights, no stop sign usage, riding the left lane oblivious, etc), terrible manners, lazy as shit, etc. This old perception that you guys can come here and make lots o caysh to take beck to Saskabush is what pisses people here off!?? Were ALL Canadians so I don't really give a crap myself. I think people from there have good hearts and thick skins. They don't take things seriously when it is obvious, but hey were the butt of jokes for people from Toronto, and never as stoned as people from B.C. so your not alone. The only thing I can't get past is those idiots with the made much larger than average to compensate for thier tiny wieners, and come attached with an asshole attitude. ...Relax its all good - were all in this cowshit together
...Sorry - the last part I was talking about was guys and thier trucks, trucks, trucks. "the bigger the truck - the smaller the weenee". Anyway, as I said, were none of us perfect, however nothing lasts forever and when we all start to flock to Saskatchewan, I hope we have the same courtesy given to us, because the way were going now, the Americans may suddenly claim that Alberta has "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" and invade us and take over our 'oil interests' ...you never know.

as long as you don't listen to country your good with me, Oh Saskatchewan, I was down in Miami, Florida and wow, amazing, South Beach is awesome, Saskatchewan has many great lakes, I enjoy camping, but also dancing to world class techno music, peace...
some of the people here look down on you if your not a rider fan...
I'm from Bengough and ran into this in a search for Castle Rock. Love your post but clearly it's from earlier. We are in Calgary now and to come back to Sask would be pretty close to the cost of living we have now.
But I still miss it!
WTF is the deal with Regina? It seems like it only has chain or oriental restaurants.
